ORTHODONTICs for teens
Treatment that fits the teen, not just the calendar.
The teenage years are a common time for comprehensive orthodontic treatment, but timing is still individualized.
Dr. Martin considers dental development, growth, the bite, jaw relationships and the goals of treatment before recommending when and how to begin.
Braces or Invisalign?
Many teens can be treated successfully with braces or Invisalign.
The best option depends on the bite, treatment goals, lifestyle and the amount of control Dr. Martin needs to achieve the desired result.
Invisalign
For teens who are good candidates and can reliably wear and care for their aligners.
What if my teen has a narrow upper jaw or crossbite?
Transverse problems do not stop being relevant when a child becomes a teenager.
For selected older children and adolescents, Dr. Martin may evaluate whether conventional expansion, MARPE or another approach best fits the diagnosis and stage of skeletal development.
MARPE is not an adult-only treatment, but it is also not automatically the right choice at a particular birthday. Growth, anatomy and treatment objectives matter.
A plan they can understand
Teenagers do better when they understand what we are doing and why. Our goal is to make the treatment plan clear to both the patient and the parent and choose an approach that can realistically work in everyday life.
