Adults frequently return to orthodontic treatment because of relapse, changing bite relationships or concerns that were never fully addressed the first time.

Adult expansion and transverse problems
Some adults have an upper jaw that is too narrow relative to the lower jaw or have lived with a crossbite for years.
Because skeletal biology changes after growth, adult expansion requires a different treatment-planning conversation than expansion in a young child.
For selected patients, MARPE may be considered. Other mature skeletal discrepancies may warrant collaboration with an oral and maxillofacial surgeon. The goal is to understand the anatomy and choose the appropriate approach - not to force every adult into the same solution.
